A Chicago woman filed a lawsuit against the hip hop group Insane Clown Posse (ICP) on Tuesday, September 5th. In her personal injury lawsuit, she alleges she was permanently injured after being struck by a bottle of Faygo soda at an ICP concert back in 2015.
In her lawsuit, the woman chronicles how it’s typical for the two members that comprise the music group to take two-liter bottles of Faygo and spray them into the crowds at their concerts. She also notes that they often throw bottles into the crowd.
Apparently, the Faygo beverage brand is often referenced in the group’s song lyrics and held in high esteem by ICP’s loyal fans. In fact, it seems so popular that the drink is commonly consumed at gatherings among group loyalists, super-fans that are referred to as Juggalos.
In the woman’s lawsuit, filed with the Cook County Circuit Court, she chronicles how she attended an ICP concert at the Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park in DuPage county in October of 2015. She alleges that, during the concert, the group’s two artists performed a particularly unsafe and dangerous musical act.
Apparently, during that performance, the artists began throwing the full bottles of the Faygo beverage into the audience from the stage’s elevated height. While it’s unclear as to the exact nature of the injuries she suffered, she maintains that she suffered both permanent and severe injuries after having been struck by one of those bottles during that performance.
The woman has sought out an award of $200,000 in damages from the two group members, in their own personal capacities, their joint company, Insane Clown Posse, LLC, and their record company, Psychopathic Records. She’s also requested $100,000 from both the show’s promoter and the group’s management company, Chicago Haunt Holdings, and Odeum, Inc.
She argues that the performers for ICP, and more broadly, all the sued parties, should have been aware of the danger that heavy projectiles posed to concertgoers.
