March Is Brain Injury Awareness Month

March has been declared brain injury awareness month. Munday & Nathan is joining organizations around the country that are taking steps to educate people about this medical condition that impacts millions of people every year.

Brain Injuries Come In Many Forms

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) are typically classified as mild, moderate and severe. The reality is that even a mild TBI can have a serious impact on a person's life, resulting in a variety of issues ranging from headaches to memory loss.

Many people believe that all brain injuries come with loss of consciousness. That is not the case. A concussion is a brain injury and it can occur with or without loss of consciousness. However, if a person loses consciousness after a blow to the head, it is a sign of a brain injury and medical treatment should be sought.

Treatment For Brain Injuries

Recognizing the signs of a brain injury and seeking medical treatment as soon as possible can make a big difference. The signs of a mild traumatic brain injury can be subtle: headaches, trouble speaking, nausea, memory loss, cognitive difficulties, mood changes and personality changes. In fact, sometimes the victim does not even notice these symptoms until someone else brings them to their attention.

After a motor vehicle accident or any other incident that involves trauma to the head, medical treatment is important, even if it does not seem immediately necessary.

Compensation For Brain Injury Treatment

If a TBI was caused by someone else's negligence, such as in a car crash, the victim may have the right to pursue compensation for medical bills and other expenses. An experienced attorney can help victims pursue a personal injury claim to maximize compensation and get the money necessary to cover the best possible medical treatment.
